Reflections

“Water-works…”

Personally, I love the rain.  I always have…

There’s just something about a gray and rainy day that seems to justify wandering away within my own mind, free to explore whatever rainbow paths appear along the way.  Or to curl up and sleep, perchance to dream of a better way…

But not today…

Today the rain provides a different kind of relief…

Today the rain hides the tears I can no longer contain.  It provides shelter from the onslaught of Light that seems always just beyond reach.  It grants me camouflage, protection from having to explain myself…

“Oh, is my face wet?…  Well of course it is; it is raining, you know”…

Normally, I’d welcome such tears, grateful for their cleansing touch…

But not today…

Today I feel their weight upon my soul; each drop falling with the fate of the world within.  Each tear creating prisms for my eyes to witness; the division of Light into its disparate component parts…

Gone is the sense of wholeness that has carried me forward.  Lost is the sense of unity.  For all that my spirit aches for One, it is Other the world reveals.  Divided and turning in on itself; reviling and hating its different parts…

Hope is ever a fleeting thing, tremulous, dependent, unsure of itself.  Bolstered by faith it can sometimes succeed, in spite of itself.  But “reality,” that which we create for ourselves, is a harsh taskmaster, marching us forward relentlessly to meet our “just” reward…

And while these tears of mine may distort the sight, its true colors, at least, remain; blurred beyond recognition, perhaps, but nonetheless solid shapes and shadows before me…

There is no escape today…

Behold the power of Water, the well of pure potential…

Like Air it is fluid and adaptable, not deterred by obstacles.  But unlike Air, it has sufficient substance to force its way through.  Going around said obstacle is always a choice, but Water can also seek out the weakest point, and through perseverence, patience, and sheer determination, it can create its own channel through whatever tries to hold it back…

Like Earth, Water can sustain Life, providing an environment where living beings are born, grown, evolved, and killed.  Unlike Earth, Water can also absorb Life, providing home and sustenance to beings of Earth as well as Water; creatures of the Earth can survive in Water, while creatures of Water cannot survive on Earth…

Like Fire, Water can inspire, nurture and compel creativity.  Like Fire, Water can also destroy creation…  But where Fire erases all evidence of what once was, Water preserves it for posterity to discover, a warning of what might one day be…

Again…

Water works on Me today…

And there is no rainbow to be found…

No release to be experienced…

No escape from reality…

Very deep and encompassing post Lisa. Beautiful use of English.
I love the rain too for all sorts of reasons (But I don’t live near a river, so lucky not having to worry about floods and can indulge my enjoyment)
As with other forces of Nature Water is a Life Bringer and Destroyer. That’s how it seems in Life doesn’t it? As the old saying goes “All Things in Moderation”.
When it comes to Reality..well…who is to say? Personally I’m having a constant battle with definitions; one day’s Reality is the next day’s…..?..Whatever. Sometimes it seems it was just a fog, blown away.
Take care, keep on keeping on.

  2. What to say to that, hey? Well, it’s the problem with pioneering; with having allowed ourselves to consider choice and change. It’s a crossroads. Left or right? The wide or the narrow? The popular freeway, or the brambly, barely visible path through wild woods and unknown terrain? The good thing is, the crossroads is a way station. No need to rush off. Time to assess; to think; to decide. Tears are good, by the way. There’s a time for joy and there’s a time for sorrow. Sorrow is good. Sorrow builds character.
